Built in Glasgow 1869, the 1109 grt Leith iron steamship Craigforth ran aground at Pitulie on the 18th of October 1884 whilst on a voyage from Iceland to Leith with a cargo of sheep and ponies. She had mistaken the light at Rosehearty Harbour for Kinnaird Head lighthouse and turned south too soon - stranding to the east of Rosehearty at Pitulie. Although this area has been dived quite often, there is no trace of any wreckage apart from an anchor which lies at 18 metres just to the west of Sandhaven.

Any information or stories about shipwrecks in the Rosehearty area would be greatly appreciated - please contact the source of these pages, Roger Mathison.
