Cant was tutor to the Pitsligo family around 1630.
His insignia still adorns the pulpit to remind us of his charge
as first Parish minister. The parishoners, who had no likiing for
him, nick-named him "Canting Andrew" because of his whining
and drawling delivery of sermons; he was a severe disciplinarian.
Leaving the parish in 1639 to become closer to the core of the Covenanting
movement, Andrew Cant forged his name into the history of this troublesome
period. A likeness of Andrew Cant;s face carved in sandstone and
once adorned the South wall, with initials C.A. below.
