I love Rosehearty! My father immigrated to the US with his family in the early 1900's and always talked about his Scottish "home." I'm so glad I was able to visit, and definitely plan to return for a longer stay!

You have a beautiful site. I was looking for information regarding my Dad John Buchan RITCHIE, he died recently, here in Canada. His mother Georgina Buchan Ritchie died shortly afte dad was born and dad was sent to Rosehearty to live with his grandparents for a while. My grandfather, his father, remarried Katherine and they had five children - Joseph, George, Mary, Robert and Jean. Dad moved to Canada in 1957 with wife Isobel and daughters Pamela and Patricia. Any information would be helpful as I'm having a hard time getting started. Dad also was an artist and did a few watercolours of Rosehearty harbour when he was in his mid forties. John Buchan Ritchie, born June 4, 1916. Passed away September 21st 2001.

First off, you have a lovely site. I have been doing research on my ancestor, Hugh Mercer who indeed the one and same from Rosehearty. His father's traditions continue, as my father and grandfather both are still ministers and have their own churches in Newburgh, NY. General Mercer served there and dispersed the troops with General Washington. I now live only a couple hours from his apothacary shop and I continue to research. I hope to come there soon, as it looks as lovely a town as I could imagine being a part of my Scottish history.

Re: Strachans Rosehearty
I have left an earlier message without result. Possibly not enough information. I am seeking descendants of Alexander Strachan and Helen Lawrance M. Peathill 1810. They had two children, John and Alexander (John is my g g grandfather). John married Mary Birnie in 1841 and died Peathill 1908. John and Mary had eight children, John ( my g g grandfather m. Jessie Reid Inverurie 1880) Alexander, William, Helen, Alfred, Mary, Adam and Eliza.
Do I have any relatives in Rosehearty or the North East.
Is there anybody out there.

I visited the site a few days ago but should have left a more detailed message.
I am trying to trace my grandfather's forbears.
He was born James Walker Strachan in Rosehearty in 1879. He came to New Zealand with his parents probably in the mid 1880's with a brother William and sister Christina. There is unreliable evidence that his fathers name was John. His mothers name is unknown. The family may have moved to Inverness prior emigrating to New Zealand.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone that may have information.

Great to be back for christmas 2000 although I was not allowed down to the Masons Arms!!! Scott, if you read this, I'll catch up with you later this year.

Happy New Year to all.
