I was born in Rosehearty in 1925 at 58 Union Street
and brought up the first five years of my life by my
grandparents. My Grandfather was nick-named
"Black Jock" due to being weather beaton by the sun,
wind and rain as he was a fisherman, fishing out of
Rosehearty in boats called "Baldies". His boat was
named "Duke of Fyfe". He also had a Yawl (a type of
sail boat) called "Lively". I still manage to visit
Rosehearty everytime I am on holiday. The harbour is
dead now as there is only 2-3 boats working there.
To think Rosehearty before my time was one of the
bigest herring ports in Scotland. Bless you Rosehearty

My family and I were delighted to discover the Rosehearty web site and spent a marvellous time accessing all the well-loved places I visited both as a child and an as an adult visiting my grandparents and Aunt & Uncle Margaret & Johnny Ritchie & cousin Thelma. It's so great to be able to keep up to date with news and events in Rosehearty on a regular basis. Although I live in Bahrain now, Rosehearty still feels like a second home to me and I congratulate you and thank you, for bringing Rosehearty to all of us who live abroad. It's a great web site!!

This is a marvellous site. I first reviewed it in the spring of 1999 and got information on the Millenium Calendars. In August we were able to visit Rosehearty and meet the wonderful woman who was at the project office. We secured 2 calendars and she delivered a third to our B&B in Aberdeen along with a few extra goodies. Wayne's grandfather, Alexander Davidson Clarke was born in Rosehearty in 1886 and lived on Fordyce and Kirk streets. The family moved to Smithy Croft near Stuartfield in about 1898. It was great to see the site where he spent his early childhood and imagine the things he might have seen.

I have visited Rosehearty twice. I stayed at a house across from the bus stop on Shore road - very near the harbour - with a friend's Grandad. Took beautiful walks along the coast. Went fishing (small boat - big ocean). I was young then (15 and 18 yrs) and I will come back.

General Hugh Mercer was my great, great great grandfather. I would like to find out about what plaid he wore and what crest would be his. I'm trying to collect as much information as possible about him.
Thanks so much!! Karma

Thanks for a great site - the guest book has been a helpful way of connecting with long lost family members - Lorimer, Strachan, Morison and Birnie from the Pitsligo Parish, my connection left in 1870's. I have also really enjoyed my Rosehearty calender brings back lots of memories of my visit 4 years ago.

Thank you very much for the interesting information about Hugh Mercer's early life in Rosehearty. I am writing a book on Major Robert Hoops, who founded the village of Mercer, Sussex County, NJ, which is now Belvidere, Warren County, NJ. Major Hoops was with Brig.-Gen. Mercer when he was killed in the Battle of Princeton in 1777 and named his village Mercer in the general's honour.
Your RCW is the best I have seen in my internet travels!
