I spent many a happy holiday in Rosehearty as a child. My mother Gladys (Ritchie), Nan (Mary Ritchie), Aunts (Mary and Laura)& Uncle Henry were from Rosehearty. This site is wonderful as places that I knew and loved as a child come back to life for me. The warmth or the people, the fantastic views and scenery and the wonderful food prepared by my dear Aunt Mary still linger in my memory. Thank you for bringing that back to me.

Hi everyone

I am coming up to Rosehearty in the New Year to see where some of my ancestors are from - would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in giving us a bit of a tour of the Rosehearty area

The website is great, has definitely made sure I will be coming, whatever the weather!

Cheers

I first visited Torphins in the late 40s. I kept on coming till the 1960s. My very best memories are of this most beautiful area of Aberdeenshire. In fact it was a physical pain when I couldn't visit. I've got over that now but I still long for the peace and tranquillity of North Brae.If Annie and Alan are still alive I'd really like to hear from them. Dad(George) has gone now but he was passionate about Aberdeenshire.I've been trying to follow our family tree but it is difficult. Us Milnes didn't move much in over two hundred years and in many ways that made it more difficult. I could go on for hours.Anyone with info please call.

Keen interest in Scottish History and our castles.
I have visited Pitsligo Castle on several occasions and am continually dismayed at the lack of restoration progress and absence even the basic information for passing tourists and 'anoraks' like myself.
The castle is truly a historical and architectural gem!!! Such a shame that its full potential has not been recognised for the benefit of the people of Rosehearty and that of Scotland. Nonetheless, I wish the "Castle Friends" all the very best in fulfilling their commendable objectives.

I was stationed with the US Air Force at RAF Mormond Hill from 1981 to 1983. RAF Mormond Hill was my first duty assignment. When I arrived in Rosehearty, I stayed at the Cliffview Hotel, owned by Bill and Edna Simpson, along with their two sons Mark and Graham. What a wonderful time it was there! I had heard that once you make friends with a Scotsman, you have a friend for life. Truer words were never spoken.

Very interesting site especially for me on the genealogy side. My g-grandfather James Barclay was born just up the road at the 'Red House' at Pittendrum,Sandhaven in 1848. His mothers family the 'McDonalds' lived their. Mother was Mary McDonald, daughter of Alexander McDonald who was a farmer, b. 1792 and died 12-9-1859 at Pittendrum and Barbara Evans - both parents were buried at a family plot at Peathill churchyard.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone else who may be related on either the Barclay/McDonald linage. Kindest regards Graeme A. Barclay

the web site is good, but there could alot more information about local sports teams. e.g. the progression of the under sixteens football team, who recently won the league and the league cup final, and there could be more pictures of local attractions and people. and maybe a few more better quizes.
